If you have a great smile, chances are you don’t think about it much. However, having an imperfect smile can cause a great deal of stress and anxiety. People often feel the need to hide their smiles when missing teeth, stains, or crooked teeth are apparent. Research has shown time and again that having a beautiful smile is not only linked to your self-confidence, but can also increase your happiness in life. People who have their best smile are more confident, less anxious, and enjoy life more.

Studies Show Avoiding the Dentist Makes You Unhappier

Recent research has shown that people who avoid the dentist tend to be unhappier in their lives. This is because people who regularly skipped their dental appointments were more likely to have missing teeth, gum disease, and other oral health issues that impacted their day-to- day life.

The research also showed that people who neglected to care for their oral health were also more likely to have poorer overall health. People who have a healthy, beautiful smile are more likely to be happier and take better care of their bodies than people who don’t. This is why having your best smile is so important—not just for overall health, but for your happiness!

Research Proves Smiling Improves Your Mood

Studies have also proved that smiling—whether genuine or faked—can boost your mood and even your immune system. This is because the act of smiling releases endorphins, and your body can’t tell the difference between a real and a fake smile. People who smile more tend to be happier and more confident!

Unfortunately, people who are severely self-conscious of their smiles often avoid smiling altogether. Having oral health issues such as gum disease or tooth decay can progress if not treated. These problems often get to the point where your smile is compromised and you no longer feel comfortable showing your teeth. When you have a gorgeous smile, you can speak and laugh without holding back and enjoy the increased happiness that comes with it!

A Beautiful Smile Increases Success and Confidence

Often, self-esteem begins in childhood. While having an imperfect smile is considered cute among children, it can be hugely damaging to the image of an adult. Having a subpar smile can impact your success, confidence, and even your approachability. A beautiful smile can make you more attractive and appear more trustworthy and approachable. Your smile affects how people perceive you. A great smile can help you be more warm and open, while hiding your smile or having an unpleasant smile can lead people to be more distrusting or less attracted to you.

Don’t wait to get the smile of your dreams. With all the benefits a perfect smile offers you, why not see what can be improved? Maybe you need a simple whitening to help get your confidence back on track, or maybe you need more involved restorative work. Regardless, schedule a consultation with an experienced dentist to talk about your perfect smile!

Your dentist may have spoken with you about getting a temporary dental crown on your tooth before getting your permanent crown. Why is this? And what exactly is a temporary dental crown? Here is the total 411 about temporary dental crowns—everything you need to know before getting one!

What Are Temporary Dental Crowns?

Temporary dental crowns function as “pre” dental crowns that are made out of either plastic or stainless steel. These crowns are adhered to your teeth using a temporary binding solution that will be removed before your permanent crown is placed. They look just like a permanent dental crown and provide many of the same benefits and even help to prepare your mouth for the new dental crown.

How Is a Temporary Dental Crown Different from a Permanent One?

A temporary dental crown is only used until your permanent one is ready. While temporary dental crowns are made from plastic or metal, your permanent crown will be made from ceramic or ceramic bonded to metal. They are also typically made at your dentist office, whereas your permanent crown will be made in a lab to be custom for your smile. Your dentist office may also have the ability to create permanent crowns in office via CEREC same-day crowns technology, so no temporary crown will be needed.

Why Are They Used?

A temporary dental crown is used for several reasons and they have several benefits. These include:

Protecting the tooth. Your temporary crown will prevent food from getting trapped in your affected area and provide the necessary protection to prevent sensitivity and further damage.

Preparing gums for the permanent crown. A temporary crown is often very similar to your future permanent one, so it helps “prepare” the mouth for the adhesion of the permanent solution by helping the gums adjust while your temporary crown is in there.

Restoring function. The temporary crown will allow you to speak and chew like normal until your real crown is placed.

Keeps you looking great. Waiting for a permanent crown can take weeks. A temporary crown will restore your natural appearance until you’re ready for the permanent solution.

Keeps teeth in their place. The temporary crown helps teeth to resist shifting and stay where they are so that the place for the permanent crown is held and ready for you!

How Long Will I Have My Temporary Dental Crown?

Usually lab preparation of your crown will take about two weeks. This is the approximate length of time you’ll have your temporary dental crown. Since your dentist will use a temporary adhesive solution, the temporary crown is easily removed and you’ll be ready for your permanent crown when it’s completed for you!

Temporary dental crowns serve many functions and provide short-term solutions for you while you’re waiting for your lab-created custom crown. Talk with your dentist about a temporary crown and how it can effectively hold a place for your real crown until its ready to make your smile gorgeous again!

These days, many people find that getting their wisdom teeth removed is the best course of action for their smile. Our wisdom teeth are often so far back in our mouths that they’re impossible to keep clean with regular brushing, often resulting in cavities and decay. As humans have evolved, wisdom teeth aren’t needed as much anymore. Impacted wisdom teeth cause many teens and young adults to seek removal of their wisdom teeth. However, what happens when your wisdom teeth are painful or infected? Don’t ignore that wisdom tooth—the consequences could affect your whole smile!

Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Impacted wisdom teeth happen when there’s not enough space in your mouth for your wisdom teeth to come through your jaw and take their place with your other teeth. When this happens, you can suffer from migraines, painful inflammation or cysts around your gums, and even crooked teeth! When there’s not enough space for the teeth to come through, they begin pushing against your other teeth. Ignoring your wisdom teeth’s arrival in your mouth could put any orthodontic work you had done at risk or even lead to gum infections and cavities.

Cavities and Gum Problems

If you allow your wisdom teeth to come in, you could experience cavities. Wisdom teeth are often difficult to brush and properly clean due to their location in the mouth. This can create infections and swollen gums from the buildup of plaque and bad bacteria. As you get older, wisdom teeth become more permanent and solid in your mouth, making them even more difficult to remove as time goes on. Ignoring any swollen, red, or bleeding gums as a result of your wisdom teeth could put your whole mouth at risk for gingivitis or periodontal disease.

Sinus Health Problems and Headaches

Wisdom teeth are known for being painful as they grow in, but what many patients don’t know is that wisdom teeth can indirectly lead to migraines and sinus problems. As the wisdom teeth come in, the way you chew and bite may change, which can lead to pressure on unexpected places in your jaw. Tense muscles from the pain of wisdom teeth could lead to headaches, which may be occasional or persisting.

Some people who leave their wisdom teeth in or ignore the pain they cause also experience sinus problems. Your upper wisdom teeth come in right under your sinuses, so they can affect the pressure your sinuses experience and lead to headaches or infections.

Some people never have problems with their wisdom teeth, have plenty of space for them in their mouths, and are able to keep them clean. However, this isn’t true for the majority of people. Ignoring the pain or infection that your wisdom teeth cause can have a big impact on the rest of your smile. Visit your dentist. He or she can take x-rays and determine if your wisdom teeth are fine or if they need to be removed to prevent future dental problems for your smile!

If you’re not a candidate for bridges or implants, or can’t afford expensive options for your gapped or missing teeth, consider Snap-On Smile! This inexpensive, minimally-invasive option gets you the smile of your dreams in just three weeks and in only two appointments. Snap-On smile can provide you with the confidence of a beautiful smile without the expensive dental work that goes with it. What exactly is Snap-On Smile and what should you know about it?

Who Is a Good Candidate?

People who don’t qualify for dental implants for bridges can be good candidates for Snap-On Smile. People who also don’t tolerate invasive procedures well or have anxieties about the more invasive dental procedures may consider Snap-On Smile as an easy yet permanent solution. It’s inexpensive and you can eat and drink with your Snap-On Smile in. The dental resin material makes it strong and mimics your real teeth.
What to Expect

Beginning the process for your Snap-On Smile is easy. Simply schedule a visit with your dentist. You’ll be able to talk with him or her about Snap-On Smile, if you’re a good candidate, and if it’s the right choice for you. If you decide Snap-On Smile is your best option, you’ll get to choose your style and color of Snap-On Smile and talk with your dentist about which looks best for your natural look. Your dentist will then take an impression of your teeth in order for the Snap-On Smile to fit properly.

Once your initial visit is done, you’ll return just three weeks later once your Snap-On Smile has arrived at our office. You’ll go through a final fitting to ensure your Snap-On Smile fits and looks beautiful, and then you’ll be able to wear your Snap-On Smile home!

Consider Snap-On Smile if you aren’t able to afford or tolerate the procedures of dental implants and bridges. Whether you need Snap-On Smile as a solution in-between treatments or for your lifelong smile, Snap-On Smile makes a strong yet easy fix. Talk with your dentist about Snap-On Smile today to see if it’s right for you!
